Use a Supported Browser
The UC web application performs best in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Both browsers should be kept up to date. Chrome version 130 or above and Edge version 129 or above are recommended. Using an older or unsupported browser can result in audio problems, missing features, or login issues.
Install as a Progressive Web App
Installing the UC application as a PWA gives you a dedicated app window separate from your browser tabs, better notification handling, and the ability to set it to launch automatically on startup. PWA installation is available through the Integrations section under User Preferences. This is one of the most impactful steps you can take to improve daily usability.
Allow Notifications
Notifications must be allowed at both the browser level and the operating system level for incoming calls, messages, and voicemails to alert you properly. Check your browser site settings and your OS notification settings to confirm both are enabled. On Mac, also ensure that your browser and the browser helper app have notifications allowed in System Settings.
Configure Power Settings
If your computer goes to sleep while the UC app is running, the application may lose its connection to the back-end services. This can cause you to miss calls or stop receiving notifications. Preventing the computer from sleeping, or adding the UC app to the list of sites that are never put to sleep in your browser, will keep the connection active. Detailed power setting instructions for Chrome, Edge, Windows, and Mac are covered in the power settings article.
Set Up Your Audio Devices
Go to User Preferences and open the Audio section to select and test your microphone and speakers. Use the Test Sound button to verify each device is working correctly before you start taking calls. If a device is not appearing in the list, click Rescan Devices to refresh. A USB or wired headset generally provides more reliable audio quality than built-in laptop speakers and microphones.
Keep the App Updated
The UC application updates automatically when you refresh the browser or reopen the PWA. You can check your current version and manually trigger a version check from the lower left corner of the preferences page. Keeping the app current ensures you have the latest features and bug fixes without any manual installation steps.
Sign Out and Back In When Things Seem Off
If call history is not updating, notifications stop arriving, or something else feels off, signing out and signing back in will reset the application’s connection to the back-end services. This resolves the majority of intermittent issues without needing to contact support.
