How to Use Call Park and Retrieve Parked

What Is Call Parking?

Call parking lets you place a call into a shared holding area, known as a park queue or park orbit, so it can be picked up by anyone on the system, not just the person who parked it. It is different from placing a call on hold, which keeps the call tied to your specific phone. Parking is useful when you need someone else to take over a call or when you need to move to a different phone to continue the conversation.

Parking a Call from a Desk Phone

Most desk phones have park assigned to a dedicated line key, often labeled Park 1, Hold 1, or similar. While on an active call, press the park key to place the call into that park queue. The system will confirm the call has been parked and may announce the park location.

Parking a Call from the UC App

  1. While on an active call, click the Park button in the active call window.
  2. Choose Auto Park to send the call to the first available queue automatically, or select a specific park queue from the list for directed parking.
  3. A confirmation message will appear telling you which queue the call was sent to and the code to retrieve it from a desk phone.

Retrieving a Parked Call

  • From a desk phone: Press the park key that corresponds to the queue where the call is parked. If the key is lit, a call is waiting there. Press it to pick up the call.
  • From the UC app: Open the Parking tab and click Pickup next to the parked call you want to retrieve.
  • By dialing: Dial the park retrieval code shown in the confirmation message when the call was parked.

Park Queue Visibility

Which park queues you can see in the UC application depends on your site assignment. If you are assigned to a site, you will see park queues for that site and any queues not assigned to a site. If you are not assigned to a site, you will see all park queues on the system. If you cannot see any park queues, contact support to check whether your queues have been assigned to a department or site filter.

Practical Tips

  • Announce the park location to your colleague before they try to retrieve the call so they know which queue to pick up from.
  • Parked calls that are not retrieved within the park timeout period will be returned to the original parker’s extension or routed according to the park configuration.
  • If parking fails with an error, it may be due to high activity across the system. As a workaround, dial the park queue number directly from the UC app dialer.
