Overview
The UC application supports one-click calling from any web page that contains a telephone number link. When set up correctly, clicking a phone number on a website will automatically open the UC dialer and initiate a call to that number without any manual dialing required.
Requirements
One-click calling works on computers where the UC client is installed as either a Progressive Web App (PWA) or the native desktop application. The desktop app version works without any additional setup. The PWA version requires a one-time browser configuration.
Setting Up One-Click Calling with the PWA
To configure one-click calling with the PWA version, follow these steps in your browser:
In Chrome
- Click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and go to Settings.
- In the search box, type protocol handler.
- Click Site Settings and scroll to find Protocol Handlers.
- If a tel handler for another application is shown, click the three-dot menu next to it and select Remove before adding the UC application as the handler.
In Edge
- Click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and go to Settings.
- Search for protocol handler and navigate to Site Settings.
- Scroll to Protocol Handlers and configure the same way as Chrome, removing any conflicting tel handler if present.
Once configured, clicking any tel: link on a web page will open the UC dialer automatically. If numbers on a page are not formatted as tel: links, a browser extension for telephone number detection can be used to make them clickable.
Troubleshooting
If the UC application is not launching correctly when a phone number link is clicked, the simplest fix is to remove the PWA installation and reinstall it. This allows the application to re-register itself as the protocol handler cleanly. After reinstalling the PWA, test a tel: link to confirm one-click calling is working as expected.
