What Is Companion Mode?
Companion Mode is a feature that links the UC application to a physical desk phone, allowing the two to work together as a single communication device. When Companion Mode is active, calls are routed to both the application and the desk phone, but the audio is handled by the physical phone rather than the computer’s microphone and speakers. This gives users the comfort and audio quality of a desk phone while still benefiting from the UC application’s interface and features.
Supported Devices
Poly and Yealink phones are known to work well with Companion Mode. Results may vary with other desk phone models.
Enabling Companion Mode
- Click your user icon in the top left corner of the application to open User Settings.
- Locate the Companion Mode section in the settings sidebar.
- Toggle Companion Mode on.
- Use the device dropdown to select the registered desk phone you want to use as your companion device.
Companion Mode Calling Settings
Additional Companion Mode options can be found under Preferences, then Calling:
- Remember Companion Mode state between sessions: When enabled, the application remembers whether Companion Mode was on or off the last time you were logged in and restores that state automatically.
- Companion Mode Ringing: Choose whether only the companion desk phone rings for incoming calls, or whether both the application and the desk phone ring simultaneously.
